StepSmash 1.12: Oura Integration Is Here!

StepSmash Release 1.12.0

We’re thrilled to announce that in StepSmash 1.12.0 we’ve added an official direct integration with Oura.

We know, we just released 1.11.0, but our Oura certification process moved faster than expected, so we’re already back with another update.

Oura users have been able to connect to StepSmash through Apple Health or Health Connect for a while, but Oura activity data works a little differently than data from many other trackers. Because of that the experience could be inconsistent, and we want anyone to be able to use StepSmash regardless of which activity tracker they own.

Patch Release - July 2, 2026

We’re shipping two quick fixes today. These updates arrive over the air, independent of the app store, and usually take effect the next time you restart StepSmash.

  • Activity totals on Smash Bingo games could briefly show 0 before your real totals appeared.
  • When a Step Challenge ends, most players haven’t synced their final steps yet, so StepSmash waits up to 24 hours for everyone to sync before declaring a winner. During that window, players who synced could land in the wrong spot on the leaderboard, out of order with their step counts. Rankings now always match the steps shown.

Patch Release - July 27, 2026

Two small fixes were gradually rolled out starting Friday morning, with the patch reaching full availability to everyone over the last few hours.

  • The bonus overlay would sometimes overlap with the bottom rows of the bingo board, which made it difficult or impossible to apply bonuses to those tiles.

  • In certain conditions it was possible to use the Tile Swap bonus on tiles that you had already flipped. This could unintentionally make certain tiles free, or even break the match for that individual. It is no longer possible to use Tile Swap on any flipped tiles under any conditions.

Patch Release - August 12, 2026

When syncing from Apple Health, StepSmash has historically used Exercise Time for Active Minutes when an Apple Watch is present. Apple Watch was previously the only device able to write to this metric, so if Exercise Time was empty, StepSmash would fall back to our heart-rate-based Active Zone Minutes calculation.

We’ve recently started seeing rare cases where Exercise Time contains data even when someone doesn’t have an Apple Watch. It appears iOS 26 relaxed some of the restrictions around this metric, allowing other sources to write to it in some cases. This could cause StepSmash to report an incorrect number of Active Minutes.

This patch makes our Apple Watch detection much more reliable. StepSmash will now only use Exercise Time when an Apple Watch has actually synced data to Apple Health during the same time period. In all other cases, we’ll use our heart-rate-based method.

Patch Release - September 9, 2026

Over the past month, some players have reported occasional issues flipping tiles on their Smash Bingo boards, even when StepSmash showed that they had enough Activity Points.

After extensive investigation, we identified several rare bugs across both the StepSmash app and our servers. Each had a different cause, though they could all produce the same behavior.

Early last week, we released an over-the-air update that added diagnostic logging so we could pinpoint each cause. On September 8 and 9, we released several additional patches that addressed the issues we found.

As of today, we have fixed every known cause of this issue in production. If you still experience it, please open a new support topic so we can investigate.

Patch Release - September 15, 2026

We’ve released a fix for two issues that could affect the chat message input on iOS.

While writing a message, the keyboard could slide over the text input instead of moving it above the keyboard. This covered the message as you typed, making it difficult to see what you were writing.

After dismissing the keyboard, the message input could also shift slightly below the bottom edge of the screen. The input will now remain fully visible and move into the correct position as the keyboard opens and closes.
