Hi! When trying to use the Share button on the Friends tab, the share tray pops up as intended. However the share feature only sends out the following, with no info linking the user id for easy friend adding. There is also no deeplinking involved, so already-installed users get sent only to the App Store.
This is something we’ve wanted to do for some time, but Apple makes it notoriously difficult to do deep linking for new installs through the App Store. There are 3rd parties that offer deferred deep links but they’re usually tied to invasive advertising tracking tech, or incredibly expensive for a small company like ours, and we’re hesitant to pull them in for this kind of thing.
Deep linking for folks who already have the app installed is simple, but we’re concerned that it will be confusing if a personalized invite link only works for those scenarios. We’re tracking this internally, and the current plan is to build a thin little web app that will handle account creation and automatically accept the friend request, before pushing the user to the App Store to install.
Google Play does allow linking info to be passed through the Play Store during install, so we’ll be able to provide a fully seamless experience on Android devices.
I don’t know yet when this work will bubble to the top of the list, but I’m hoping it will be Soon™.
Gotcha. I really appreciate the thorough response. I just joined my first challenge yesterday and it’s such a joy to have that back in my life, and especially because I can also compete against my friends with other devices. Thank you so much!
Thanks for the kind words! Myself and my wife have been having so much fun doing challenges again too. So many people had moved on to other devices that it was the feature we wanted the most right after the challenges themselves.
