Message friends

Hello! Thank you for this app!!

Is there a way to message my friends in the app?

Hello! Thanks so much for the kind words-we’re glad you’re enjoying StepSmash!

Right now there isn’t a way to message friends directly in the app. We’ve been focusing on building out the games and friend features first, but we know communication is something folks are interested in. It’s on our radar, and we’ll keep the community updated as we explore it further.

Out of curiosity, what kind of messaging would be most useful to you: private one-on-one chats with friends, or something more like group messaging inside an ongoing game?

Thank you for your quick reply!

Both types of messaging would be good; group chat would be the most useful.

I am actually glad there is no ability to send messages within the app. I am constantly spammed by creeps on the Fitbit app. Uggh! I just wanna play Bingo, folks!

Good point! Perhaps there could be an option to receive messages from anyone or from friends only.

Totally hear you - thanks for the feedback! Messaging is tricky, and if we ever added it, it would need strong safeguards. I don’t think direct messages are the right fit for StepSmash, but light chat inside the Activities view of a game could be a fun way to keep things playful and social.

We’ve also been exploring new AI-based moderation tools that can block harmful or spammy content before it even gets delivered. Any kind of messaging we add would come with that kind of protection baked in, along with strong privacy controls like the new search visibility settings we just shipped.

I second this idea. Even if it’s only in game messages like an add on to the emoji in the activity string, that would be awesome!

We’ve been working on a proof-of-concept for in-game messaging for private games, and we’re at the point that I’d love to start collecting some feedback. I’ll add anyone who 's this message to the appropriate beta test and private forum area where we can share early feedback and thoughts.

It seems a comment doesn’t notify all participants of the post that there’s been activity, so I’m tagging @caty and @Laurados to see if they’re interested in providing some feedback on this early build too.
