Help Shape What Comes Next for StepSmash

Google recently announced that the Fitbit app is becoming the Google Health app, with the updated app rolling out later this month.

As part of that change, several longtime Fitbit features are going away or changing:

  • Fitbit badges will no longer be supported, and historical badges are being deleted
  • Groups and the Community Feed are being removed
  • Direct messages and social notifications are being removed
  • The weekly friends leaderboard is changing, with support for steps and Cardio Load in Google Health

StepSmash already has bits and pieces of this functionality, and we’ve had more social features on our near-term roadmap for a while. With these Fitbit changes coming, we’re excited to take a closer look at what we can prioritize sooner so StepSmash can keep becoming an even better place to play, compete, and stay active with friends!

We’ll also be updating StepSmash over the summer to support the transition to Google Health account linking. We’ll share more information as we start shipping that work.

We’re leaving this announcement thread unlocked because we’d love your feedback!

Did you use Fitbit’s social features? Were badges, groups, leaderboards, or community posts part of what made Fitbit fun for you? Are there similar features you’d like to see in StepSmash?

Let us know what you miss, what you’re excited about, and what would make StepSmash more fun for you!
