StepSmash Fitbit Integration
StepSmash supports syncing your activity data directly from your Fitbit account. Once linked, your Fitbit steps, distance, and Active Zone Minutes (AZM) can be used in StepSmash games.
Linking Your Fitbit Account
- Open StepSmash and go to Settings → Fitness Accounts.
- Select Fitbit and follow the sign-in flow.
- Approve permissions so that StepSmash can receive your daily activity data.
Permissions Requested
When you link your Fitbit account, StepSmash requests only the minimum permissions needed to power the games. These permissions are required in order to play all StepSmash game modes:
- Activity and Exercise – to access your daily steps, distance, and logged activities.
- Heart Rate & Active Zone Minutes – to calculate Smash Bingo tiles that use intensity.
- Profile – to identify your account and ensure the right data is linked.
Once your account is linked, StepSmash will automatically handle data syncing. No manual exports or file uploads are required.
Data Sync Frequency
- Fitbit pushes updated activity data to StepSmash servers roughly every 10-15 minutes, depending on Fitbit’s own sync schedule.
- If your Fitbit device is not regularly syncing with the Fitbit mobile app, StepSmash will not receive updated data.
- If you manually sync your Fitbit device to the Fitbit app you should generally expect to see the updated counts in StepSmash within just a few minutes.
You can always check the last sync time in StepSmash under your Fitbit account status.

Smash Bingo Activity Mapping
Smash Bingo boards use different activity types, all of which are mapped from Fitbit metrics:
| Smash Bingo Tile Type | Fitbit Data Source | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Steps | Daily step count | Pulled from Fitbit’s “steps” data. |
| Active Minutes | Fitbit Active Zone Minutes | Uses Fitbit’s “fat burn,” “cardio,” and “peak” heart zones. Learn more about Active Zone Minutes |
| Distance | Distance walked/run | Converted from Fitbit’s distance metrics (miles or kilometers, depending on your Fitbit settings). |
Each player’s tiles are personalized to their activity history, ensuring fairness no matter how active you are.
