StepSmash Samsung Health Integration
StepSmash supports syncing your activity data directly from Samsung Health on Android. Once linked, your steps, distance, and Active Zone Minutes can be used in StepSmash games.
Requirement: Samsung Health integration requires using StepSmash on an Android device to link your account. Once linked, your synced activity data will be available across all your devices, including iPhone and iPad.
A Samsung Galaxy Watch is not required. The Samsung Health app on your phone can track steps, distance, and activity on its own, or you can pair it with a watch or another fitness device for more detailed tracking.
Linking to Samsung Health
To set up StepSmash with Samsung Health:
- Install StepSmash on an Android device.
- Open StepSmash and go to Settings → Fitness Accounts.
- Select Samsung Health.
- Approve the permissions request so StepSmash can read your activity data from Samsung Health.
Once your account is linked, StepSmash will automatically handle data syncing. You’ll be able to view sync status and manage your Samsung Health account from any device, even if you normally play on iOS.
Permissions Requested
When you link Samsung Health, StepSmash requests only the minimum permissions needed to power the games. These permissions are required in order to play all StepSmash game modes:
- Steps – to track your daily step count.
- Distance – to calculate distance-based Smash Bingo tiles.
- Heart Rate / Active Zone Minutes – to calculate activity intensity-based Smash Bingo tiles.
- Profile Information – to ensure your account is linked correctly.
Data Sync Frequency
-
StepSmash pulls data from Samsung Health roughly every 15 minutes while running on your Android phone. We’ll be analyzing the frequency of how often we poll the Samsung Health app and will adjust as needed.
-
If the app is closed, background syncing may pause depending on your phone’s battery settings. To avoid interruptions, disable battery optimizations* for StepSmash in your Android settings. This ensures background sync runs reliably every 15 minutes.
-
To ensure your latest activity is available, make sure the Samsung Health app is syncing regularly.
- If you’re using just your phone, Samsung Health will log steps, distance, and Active Time directly.
- If you’re wearing a Galaxy Watch, confirm that it is syncing regularly with the Samsung Health app on your phone so that StepSmash can access the latest data.
*
If you’re experiencing issues with background syncing to StepSmash, check Don’t Kill My App for device-specific instructions on disabling aggressive battery optimizations. If after disabling battery optimization for StepSmash you see the app
You can always check the last sync time in StepSmash under your Samsung Health account status.

Smash Bingo Activity Mapping
Smash Bingo boards use different activity types, all of which are mapped from Samsung Health metrics:
| Smash Bingo Tile Type | Samsung Health Data Source | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Steps | Step Count | Pulled directly from Samsung Health “Steps.” |
| Active Minutes | Active Time | Uses Samsung Health “Active Time” to track activity intensity. |
| Distance | Distance Walked/Run | Pulled from Samsung Health, displayed in miles or kilometers depending on your system settings. |
Each player’s tiles are personalized to their activity history, ensuring fairness no matter how active you are.
Troubleshooting
-
Confirm that StepSmash has permission to read your Samsung Health data under Samsung Health → Settings → Apps → StepSmash.
-
Make sure the Samsung Health app is actively tracking your steps, distance, and Active Time (either through your phone or a paired watch).
-
If you aren’t seeing data sync when the StepSmash app is closed, disable battery optimizations for StepSmash. Device-specific instructions are available here: Don’t Kill My App.
-
After disabling battery optimizations, StepSmash should not cause high battery use. If you notice unusual battery drain, please report it in the Tracker Integrations Support so we can investigate.
-
If you’re wearing a Galaxy Watch, make sure it’s syncing with the Samsung Health app on your phone — StepSmash only receives data once it’s written into Samsung Health.
-
If you primarily play on iOS, remember that you still need to maintain the Samsung Health link on an Android device for data to flow to StepSmash.
