Not all steps transferred

My smash step did not sync all steps from Samsung health. I have reset the connection and still not all steps were synced. All permissions are granted in Samsung app and smash steps.

Welcome to StepSmash, and thanks for bringing this to our attention.

I have a few questions that will help us investigate:

  • When you say not all steps transferred, do you mean Samsung Health shows a higher step total for the day than what StepSmash is adding to your current game?

  • Are you using more than one device to track steps in Samsung Health?

  • What device or devices are you currently using to track your steps?

Yes Samsung health has more steps then the smash app. I am using watch to count steps.

Our release early next week will have a potential fix, and a bunch of extra logging to help us narrow down any remaining issues.

It will upload some steps but the rest i need to long in to app more frequently to transfer them. It so annoying since it will only upload 20-30steps each time I long in.

I have Samsung watcha and phone which app should I connect too Samsung health or health connect. Both work both transfer data but they both slow. Is there a difference in those app?

The StepSmash app does send data in chunks, but it’s not usually a slow process. Samsung Health is one of our most popular integrations, and across the folks using it, we haven’t seen any major issues. When the next version of StepSmash is available next week, the additional logs we’ve added to the application will help us determine what is going on with your account specifically, so we can get to the bottom of what you’re seeing.

As far as Samsung Health vs. Health Connect, the only major difference is how Active Minutes are determined. When syncing from Samsung Health, Active Minutes are mapped directly to the Active Time metric in Samsung Health. When syncing through Health Connect, Active Minutes are calculated through a combination of heart rate, age, and resting heart rate. You can find a full description of how that works here: How Active Minutes Work in StepSmash

Hello! I’m having the same issue with Samsung health. I only have my phone recording my activity, no other devices. I’ve tried syncing it through the settings on your app and it says that it’s synced a random amount of hours and activity before updating my steps. According to Samsung I had 4,000 steps yesterday but step smash said I had 180. Every time I synced it, the steps would change and be more/less.

@edyta_s could you both fill out this form Samsung Health Sync Issues

I’m preparing access to the beta release of the next version of StepSmash so we can test out the potential fixes before they’re made more widely available. This release also includes the additional logging I’ve mentioned which will help us narrow down any remaining issues if the fixes included in the build aren’t targeting the right areas.

Ah yeah that alert that comes up after manually syncing is confusing. We’ve removed it from most of the other fitness integrations already and need to remove it from Samsung Health too. When StepSmash is syncing your activity data it checks with the server first to see how far back it needs to go, and then it syncs enough to “catch up” to the current time. The alert you’re seeing is only communicating what happened for that small slice of time.

Thank you so much for responding to our request for testers! We’ve added everyone who filled out the form to our Google Play beta group. To get the latest release you’ll need to opt-in here and follow the instructions: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stepsmash.app

This release is rather large but for the Samsung Health syncing issue specifically we’ve fixed an issue related to syncing steps, and we’ve added a significant amount of logging to our syncing telemetry to help diagnose any additional issues behind the missing steps that have been reported.

  • After updating please disconnect your Samsung Health account in StepSmash and then link it again. This will trigger a full, fresh, sync that will help us determine if our fix worked as expected. Please stay on the Fitness Accounts screen until you receive the alert indicating your Samsung Health account has synced fully.
  • Check out any ongoing game and see if your step counts are where you expect them to be. If they are not let me know your step count you had yesterday, and the step count from the day before.

How is Samsung Health sync working for everyone since 1.9.0 went out?

We’re going to go ahead and close this out as we think we’ve squashed all remaining Samsung Health sync bugs. If anyone sees anything new please open a new thread and we’ll jump right on it!
