Two people in our workweek challenge last week started showing tens of thousands of extra steps. Their actual step count was much lower. Leaving the game and restarting their phones didn’t help.

Welcome to the StepSmash Forums, and thanks for reporting this issue!

We’re investigating what is happening here and will let you know when we have more information.

I had a group that had the same error. Not sure if it was tracker specific but one was using apple health and the other was an Apple Watch. We have a Fitbit user and a garmin user in the same game who had no issue. I sent an image as feedback.

Thanks for the added information!

We shipped a small over-the-air update several hours ago that adds additional logging for Apple Health when StepSmash is syncing fitness data. We should have enough data by tomorrow to see what is going on.

Once we’ve got it the issue narrowed down, and patched, we can retroactively update step challenges to the actual winners are credited and earn their badges.

Yes, same! The two people affected use Apple Health and an Apple Watch. The Garmin and FitBit users are fine.

Good news, we’ve identified what’s causing this and already have a fix in the works.

Late last week we updated a third-party SDK we use to interface with Apple Health. That update introduced a subtle behavior change that we didn’t catch during testing, which caused some Apple Health and Apple Watch players to see inflated metrics in StepSmash.

We’ll be shipping a fix today. After that, we’ll work through backfilling affected data and correcting completed step challenges so the right winners, placements, and badges are restored.

Thanks for your quick attention to this. Would you say it’s fixed now?

The sync issue itself was fixed in StepSmash 1.9.5. Once the App Store installed that update, syncing from that point forward should be accurate.

We have not gone back and backfilled the corrected data yet because doing so could affect ongoing Bingo games. We’re waiting for a few of those games to wrap up, and then we’ll backfill the corrected data and award the right badges to the correct Step Challenge winners.

Are you seeing new step challenges where Apple Health users are still seeing inflated step counts?

Not seeing inflated steps anymore, no. But our one Apple Health user is currently showing 0 steps.

Which individual? I can take a look at logs and see what is going on.

After doing some digging, it looks like her account has only synced data through May 3rd, and your Workweek Hustle started on the 4th. Her phone did sync some steps yesterday, but it’s running behind and only made it to the 3rd.

Can you have her try this:

1. Open the app and go to **Settings → Fitness Accounts**
2. Tap **Sync Now**
3. Once the loading indicator finishes, fully close the app and reopen it

Her step count for this week should show up after that.

If it doesn’t, head back to **Settings → Fitness Accounts** and disconnect/reconnect Apple Health to start fresh.
